Things to do in Newtonmore and the Cairgorms
No other part of the United Kingdom offers such a wide variety of things to do and see as Speyside and the Cairngorms area.
Newtonmore, at the head of the Spey valley, is geographically virtually at the centre of Scotland and is an excellent base for touring in all directions and for access to a wide range of mountain country. The Spey valley is a perfect centre for most outdoor sports, including walking, golf, cycling, skiing, watersports, fishing, pony trekking, birdwatching and natural heritage centres.
Local Places of Interest
In Newtonmore Village itself, take time to visit the Highland Folk Museum, the Waltzing Waters (a light and sound spectacle), and the Clan Macpherson Museum. Browse in the local antique shop or gallery where local artists' work are on display.
A Little Further Afield
A trip of between 3 and 20 miles from the village will take you to the Highland Wildlife Park beyond Kingussie, Cairngorm Gliding Club at Feshiebridge, Dalwhinnie Distillery and the Landmark Centre at Carrbridge..
Scotland's highest distillery at Dalwhinnie
Rothiemurchus Estate for trout fishing, clay pigeon shooting, farm tours and quad biking, and the Strathspey Steam Railway at Aviemore.
And Just A Little Further
Add just another few miles and you will find Cairngorm Reindeer Centre and the beautiful sandy beach of Loch Morlich.
Both of these are located a few miles beyond Aviemore, the Osprey Centre at Loch Garten, the Speyside Heather Centre at Skye of Curr and the new Funicular Railway at Cairngorm Mountain which whisks you high on Cairngorm in a few minutes.
